Job Title: Design Researcher
Job Location: Torrance, CA

The Design Researcher will apply knowledge and experience in research to guide the development of products within the UX group and across various departments.  Seek out insights through research and data analysis to provide clarity into what is required to succeed in each project and validate that level of success at the end of each project.  Through their exploration and insights they will become the empathetic voice of User’s and Customer’s.  It will be with this empathetic voice that they remind teams and enlighten stakeholders about what the real requirements are.

 

Responsibilities:

 

-Extract and Convert stakeholder needs/question into research objectives.

-Lead project research activates by addressing stakeholder requirements, participating in gap analysis, prioritizing research needs, and maintaining a log of future research activities as opportunities and needs arise.

-Champion strategic benchmarking activities by defining the various metrics under evaluation, to build and maintain a solid body of knowledge on competitors.

-Advise, Plan and/or implement qualitative research to gather Corporate, Customer, and User insights through experienced utilization of a variety of qualitative research methodologies.

-Apply research insights to the creation of design solutions as a member of a team.

-Collaborate with team to plan and conduct quantitative research to gather Corporate, Customer, and User insights.

-Collaborate with team to analyze, understand, and model/summarize data.

-Collaborate with team to pick up and translate key insights into captivating stories that inspire and motivate others to take action.

-Collaborate with team to access annual corporate research needs through regular cross department communication.

-Support management in the development and alignment of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to establish realistic business goals.

-Support management in the tracking and accountability of KPI through the reporting and analytics of data gathered through ongoing research.

 

Qualifications:

 

-Bachelor’s degree in a Design Research related field:  interaction design, human computer interactions, cognitive psychology, psychology, etc. and 5-7 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in technology, consumer electronics, or automotive related research and design.

-Experienced in qualitative research methodologies.

-Demonstrated skills in designing, planning, and conducting the research.

-Familiarity with a range of quantitative research methods; demonstrated ability to make sense of and verify data.

-Portfolio showing links between data, insights, and solutions a plus.
